Some Design Ideas for a First Birthday Invitation

Sure a baby's birthday invitation is meant to celebrate the baby's special day, but it is still going to be issued to the friends and family of the parents. If this is your first time designing a first birthday invitation, read on for a few design ideas that might be helpful.

Little children are hardly going to appreciate the event, so some designers make it a point to create first birthday invitations that are formal and "grown-up." However, formal and grown-up doesn't necessarily mean boring. You can include glitter and bits of shiny, colorful ribbon or lace in the design.

Even for cards that have a relatively formal look, light-hearted motifs such as balloons and teddy bears are not uncommon. Still, there are some card designers who decide that the festive, youthful approach is best. This would be especially effective if the parents happen to be fun-loving and eager to make the party a lively one. If you plan to fill your child's first birthday celebration with games, music and laughter, make sure your invitation says it plainly with its design!

It is customary to include a photo of the baby with the invitation, so don't hesitate to use a cute photograph of the baby for the cover. "Cute" is standard, however - spice things up a bit by including a funny face, or a series of smile-inducing shots of the baby making faces. Candid shots are unconventional, and for the most part not recommended; the point is to include only pictures that would make the guests even more eager to see the baby with their own eyes.

Children are a beacon of hope, a promise of a brighter future. With this in mind, designers are sometimes inspired to place inspirational quotes on the invitation. Beautiful and wise words would bless the occasion, and add a touch of joy to the affair itself. A first birthday invitation would indeed be richer with a well-selected quote. It would be a lovely plus if you could find words that the baby could look back at and live by when he or she is grown up and finally able to appreciate them!
