Should You Be Using Online Wedding Invitations? The advent of the Internet has made almost everything easier. People who are separated by continents can communicate in real time using the World Wide Web and access to information has never been this fast and this easy. Traditional practices have been eliminated in favor of the more high tech method of using the computer and online wedding invitations is just one of the developments spawned by computer science. Online wedding invitations are probably the easiest way to let people know that you’re getting married. Although it seems that way, not a lot of people choose to send their wedding invites through e-mails. This is mainly due to the fact that whatever development comes our way, a wedding is a tradition and most people prefer that it stays that way. Weddings are very solemn affairs and using a machine to let people know that you’re getting married just seemed a little tacky. No matter how glamorous an email invitation is, the lack of personal touch makes it a doubtful method to invite friends and relatives to the ceremony. Although it is okay to send birthday and party invitations through email, wedding invites just don’t seem to fit the same situation. The solemnity of a wedding, somehow, makes email invitations socially wrong. But one cannot deny that online invitations, even for weddings, can save a lot of time and cost and are definitely the surest way that the message will get to the intended recipient. Some companies, like Evite, even offer services for managing guests’ lists. For those who opt to use this method, it is important to remember to put the most important information on the invitation – the venue, the time and the date of the wedding. A lot of people, though, still prefer the old-fashioned mailing method. Aside from the spirit that it provides, mailed invitations give a certain personal touch and make recipients feel that the wedding couple is really looking forward to having them at the special event. Besides, there is a certain charm to receiving a large envelope engraved with letters that bear a warm message. Online wedding invitations might be convenient and cheap, but the lack of personal touch discourages some people from using this modern method of sending invites. Instead, they choose the traditional way, mailing their invitations complete with stamp and oversized envelope. |
