Choosing the Theme for First Birthday Invitations: How to Get the Kids' Attention

First birthday invitations! Can you believe it? Your kid has turned one! By now, he or she will be making tentative, wobbly attempts at walking and uttering those unintelligible sentences. You and your family will surely be eager to celebrate the important event. And what better way to start than to make those special invitations for his or her little buddies.

First birthday invitations should be given attention, after all, your baby will only celebrate this once. Make sure that you have a theme since kids will enjoy attending your baby's special day if you keep them occupied with fun games and activities and will be even more eager to come if they receive a special invitation with their names on it. To make this project a bit easier, here are some ideas.

1. Animals and pets. You can hold a pet-themed event and ask the kids to wear giraffe costumes or tiger masks. You can then design the invitations featuring colorful drawings or cutouts of pets and other animals. Make sure that you use happy colors, like yellows, reds, oranges and other bright shades since children will be more attracted to them if they have bright colors.

2. Superhero and cartoon invitations. What's the latest in the superhero land? Is it Spider Man? Batman? Wonder Woman? How about among the kiddie characters? Are Teletubbies the "in" thing? Or Hello Kitty? You will do best to choose the one that is the most popular at the moment. If one of the superhero films is currently on release, chances are, the kids are crazy about that particular character. You know how kids are; they always like what is currently on offer.

3. Alphabet and shapes. Your child might be only one year old, but his or her guests will not all be as young. Most of them will bring with them their siblings. There will be preschoolers, grade schoolers and toddlers of all shapes and sizes. You get to invite them to the party and also give them a bit of a learning experience by using alphabets and shapes in your invitations.

4. Handprint and footprint invites. They are symbolic of the milestone in your child's life. One year old! What better way to mark it than making an imprint of his or her hand or foot using different colors. Those tiny toes and fingers will look cute on those invites.

First birthday invitations should reflect the happiness that you and your family feel about the special day. Moreover, it should be bright and interesting to attract the attention of the little guests.
