Features of Classic Wedding InvitationsMajority of couples who plan to marry still prefer classic wedding invitations over modern and more casual types. This is because wedding is still considered a solemn affair by most and getting traditional in inviting relatives and friends to share the special day is the best way of honoring the seriousness of the occasion. Classic wedding invitations are usually engraved and sent in outer envelopes with an inner envelope containing the invitation, a response card and a reception card. Although this sounds like a lot of job, most couples still prefer to follow this old fashioned style of asking friends to attend their nuptials. Most classic style invitations for weddings use heavy ecru paper and engraved letters with a tissue layover enclosed inside the inner envelope and sent in an oversized outer envelope. The color of the invitation’s accent is always the same as the motif of the wedding which is also the color of the accent on the bride’s dress and the decoration. Traditional invitations for weddings are comprised of the invitation itself, a response card and a reception card. In some cases, a map or direction card and accommodation cards are also included in the invitation. Response or RSVP cards allow guests to let the couple know whether they will be able to attend the wedding or not. These cards can be fold overs, panel cards or double sided postcards sent with a self-addressed stamped envelope bearing the address of the bride or the bride’s family. Reception cards are usually sent if the reception will be held at a venue other than the location of the ceremony. These cards should be made of the same paper and same style as the actual invitation although the size is usually half of the size of the invitation itself. If the reception will be held on the same venue as the ceremony, reception cards are not needed. A note on the invitation stating “Reception immediately following” is enough to let the guests know that there will be a reception. Although newer styles and modern designs are now common, most couples still prefer classic wedding invitations. This is not surprising since traditional invites have not lost their appeal and are more appropriate for an event as serious as a wedding. |
